It’s been a year now since Reliant Energy installed my Energy Monitor for free and I love it. My June electricity bill went from $800 last year to $250.
Here’s what I learned:
My air conditioner cost $.80/hr to run and was 70% of my electric bill in the summer
Reliant Energy was raping me with .17/kwh I now pay a flat rate 12.5/kwh via (http://www.sparkenergy.com/spark/)
Each PC cost $10/month to run
I make sure that the Meter is under $.10/hr before leaving the house
I replaced all light bulbs with the 15w fluorescent bulbs (($1.25 from walmart)
If you have high electricity bill, your Air conditioner is probably broke (mine had a Freon leak)
I added a 12Kbtu window unit in the master bedroom. $140
Here’s an Energy Meter that only cost $140. It’s looks better than the one I have. You can install it yourself if you know how to open your breaker box, otherwise you may have to pay $50 to an electrician for this 5 minute job.
